One of the objectives of MHHI is '. . . to keep alive the rich spiritual heritage that Monsignor Hawes brought to the Mid-West and Gascoyne.'

This objective is fulfilled in many of the events and initiatives of MHHI. For example, the Camino San Francisco, group tours and spectacular musical events in his churches.

One recent initiative was the Pancakes and Ashes event held in Marine Terrace, Geraldton, on Ash Wednesday, where MHHI partnered with Caritas Australia, the Cathedral Young Choristers, and Jane Whiteaker (Housekeeper of Bishop's House) to extend the opportunity of receiving the Ash Wednesday ashes to people in the 'public square' who might otherwise rarely visit a church.

This is an evolving practice happening around the world, and fits well with the rich spiritual heritage of the distribution of ashes that Monsignor Hawes did many times in his years of priestly ministry and service.
