The 4 day Hawes Heritage Trail Pilgrimage began with Mass at St Francis Xavier Cathedral Geraldton on Sunday 20th August and a blessing of the Pilgrim Shells by The Spiritual Director of the Pilgrimage Fr Robert Cross. He was assisted throughout the Pilgrimage by Permanent Deacon Trevor Lyra.
Twenty Pilgrims registered for the 4 Day event and were joined each day by other 'Day Tripping' Pilgrims.
The trips originated and finished each day in Geraldton and the Pilgrims managed to visit most of Hawes' buildings in the Mid West as well as enjoying other local tourist attractions.
After the Mass and morning tea in the Piazza, Fr Robert welcomed the Pilgrims and gave them some background to the story of John Cyril Hawes before they visited the Museum.
This was followed by a tour of the Cathedral, The Hermitage, San Spirito Chapel at Utakarra, the Courtyard at Nazareth House and refreshments at the Irish Club (formerly St Patrick's Church).
On Day 2 the Pilgrims travelled by coach to St Joseph's Chapel at Kojarena and then on to Mullewa. They walked the Heritage Walk from the Mullewa CRC to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church where Mass was celebrated. Fr Robert then gave a talk on the history and design of the church followed by a tour of the Priest House Museum. After lunch in the school grounds, the group visited Mass Rock and the Pioneer Museum.
On the return trip to Geraldton the Pilgrims were taken to the 'Mass Site' at McGauran's Nature Reserve in East Yuna where an acknowledgement was made of the centenary of the site. This was followed by a visit to Our Lady of Fatima Church in Nanson.
On Day 3 the Pilgrims travelled to Northampton for Mass at Our Lady of Ara Coeli church.
They then visited the Skywalk at Kalbarri National Park where they gathered for a rendition of 'Oh God How Great Thour Art'.

St Joseph's at Perenjori has been under repair since Cycolone Seroja in 2021 but is now almost ready to be re-opened.
The last stop at the end of the 4 day Pilgrimage was at Morawa where Pilgrims visited the Holy Cross Church and Priest's Lodge. before returning to Geraldton.
